Statement Earrings

On most days, you'll find me wearing the same earrings - my Grandmother's pearl with diamond studs.  I absolutely love them and since they are classic, they work with any outfit and I don't have to think about what I'm wearing each day.  That said, I've been making a concerted effort lately to wear my "fun" earrings.  I have a few pairs that I love, but below are some bright, funky (but still classy) options.  What do you think?  A few of these are from Loren Hope, a designer I love, and a few others are from Pomander Place - I can't find a website for the brand, but you can buy them at Tuckernuck (a go-to site for preppy everything).

The Bib Necklace

A current trend that I love but have yet to be brave enough to try is the bib necklace.  I think the look is dramatic and attention-getting when paired on a solid-colored dress or top and there are great options at various price points.  Does anyone have one of these?  If so, is the necklace versatile?  I'm less likely to give this a try at the $100+ price point, but many of these are below that!

Laurel Denise Jewelry

All images courtesy of Laurel DenisePart of our Tour de Northampton last weekend included perusing the local shops, including one with pretty, affordable jewelry.  I particularly loved the delicate "simply stated" necklaces by Laurel Denise.  They'd make a wonderful gift, particularly for someone in need of some inspiration or encouraging words or to commemorate an important occasion.

The "mama" necklace makes me think of a dear friend who is in labor as I write this!  So exciting!

A Ring Around My Finger

Finn Jewelry as featured in Vogue Magazine (June 2009)My everyday jewelry includes my wedding band, engagement ring and the pearl and diamond earrings that belonged to my Grandmother.  I love the simplicity of wearing the same jewelry each day but sometimes I want to mix things up a bit, which can be tricky to balance with the need to keep things work-appropriate.  I find that while I love bracelets, they are troublesome to wear when I have to type (always) and that longer, funkier necklaces often don't pair well with my work clothes.

Rings, on the other hand, are easy to wear and generally don't interfere with work activities.  It is nice to wear a ring on my right-hand occasionally and while I love the super bling-y right-hand rings featured in the famous De Beers advertising campaign in 2003, those rings are a bit out of my price range.  Plus, I prefer something a bit more understated and delicate.  In my opinion, simple is often better.

A few of my favorite designers are featured below, including Daisy Knights, Kiel Mead and Finn Jewelry.  It was the love knot from Finn Jewelry that originally caught my eye in the June 2009 Vogue Magazine (see the image above) and again in the NY Times 2009 Holiday Gift Guide and started me thinking about a dainty right-hand-ring.  My feminine side leans more toward knots, bows and hearts where my funkier side loves the feather, the wings, the snake and the skull featured below.  What do you think?

Forget Me Knot Ring from Fred Flare (available in silver or brass) Eternal Ardor Band from Anthropologie (the description for this ring says that snakes have long been the symbol for eternal love. Who knew?) Gold Vermeil Feather Ring from Daisy Knights
Link Ring from Kiel Mead Forget me Nots from Kiel Mead (check out the fun colors!) Heart Silhouette Ring from Anthropologie
Gold-Plated Rings from Alex Monroe Puzzle Piece ring from Kiel Mead Rope Ring from Kiel Mead
Love Ring from Daisy Knights Skull Ring from Daisy Knights (also available with gemstones for eyes) Three Sterling Silver Rings from Daisy Knights
Wing Ring from Daisy Knights Large Shell Gem Ring from Daisy Knights Heart Ring from Daisy Knights

Below are the Finn Jewelry love knot rings that come in a variety of metals and with or without gemstones.  I particularly love the rose gold version...

As a side note, I have heard recently about people receiving gifts of jewelry from their husbands or partners when they have a baby.  One of these rings might be a great option!
